This painting is similar to Sliver of Light a few postings back in that the focal point is the large middle ground devoted to the sea. A bit of an unusual composition.
Sliver of Light, 12" x 12", acrylic on canvas, SOLD
I like the capture of wind in the grasses in this painting. It is sometimes a challenge to have them flowing just right. Though the sea and sky calm, the grasses have movement. Also i am always entranced by that little sliver of light visible on the horizon.
I took the photo for this painting on Denman Island looking towards Hornby. I have painted so much FROM Hornby, it was good to get another perspective. Denman Island much over looked has a subtle beauty itself..these flowers were gorgeous! Anyway my foray into art auction life continues..and is quite fun, but for some techno frustrations..its always good to learn new things.
The auction at DailyPaintworksGallery began yesterday. Lots of interest, purchases and bidding!, though a few technological cliches..hopefully resolved soon. I am just back from New Zealand where the kiwi's seem to auction everything online.
Heres the link to the auction page:
I am quite excited to join this art auction site. I like trying new stuff!..Anyway i am starting things off with low pricing to see what happens...and with a few of the paintings i have done here while in New Zealand. I will be on North American shores in a few days. Most of the paintings I will post on this auction site will be small ones, 12" x 12" and smaller.
There is lots of movement in this little painting which I really like and the dark bit on the right. Painting clouds and water is a bit like chasing moonbeams, very hard to pin down...I think it is important to focus on the mood and feel and to really LOOK at how the weather and currents are affecting the choice of colour, composition etc.
I really enjoy trying to capture patterns and movements of sea sky and sand. So endlessly beautiful and in a constant state of movement and flux. A good reminder for keeping in the flow of life!
Summer Bouquet 3, 4" x 6", acrylic on canvas, SOLD
I painted a couple of these florals in my RV..the space was cramped, paint palette over the sink, I had to move the easel and everything to get in and out of the door. There is a bit of a squishy feeling in these paintings which I quite like. I wonder if the environment had anything to with it.? Often my paintings are about horizons, big sky's and ocean so this is a bit different.
I painted this last summer with my painting class. I think we were focusing on painting grasses. A favorite beach spot and perfect space to paint from with the meadow looking to the beach and a big flat rock to lay out our supplies.
Summer Bouquet 4, 4" x 6", acrylic on canvas, SOLD
This one is from a class i did on flowers. We went to a friends house with big bunches of summer flowers, one of them made beautiful pottery..this little vase with roses on it totally inspired me!..
Waiheke Palm, 4" x 4", acrylic on canvas block $55.00
This is the first painting of a palm tree for me, well almost i painted one in Hawaii once. I find going to another country it forces me to really LOOK at nature closely rather than rely on memory and knowledge. I love the cheerful palmtrees, pretty flowers and beautiful blue green sea of New Zealand.
This little piece was part of a Christmas Show at the Rocky Bay Hall on Waiheke Island. It was fun for me to join the artists of Rocky Bay where I stayed for 2 months and painted. Well painted a bit anyway, was distracted by friends, hiking swimming and other pleasant summertime island pleasures. I find it challenging to concentrate on painting when lots of activity, seems I am most productive when lots of time alone..(I read once that being slightly bored is good for creativity!)
Great way to display small paintings on a shelf or dresser rather than hanging on a wall.
This is my first posting on my new blog devoted to small paintings. My last blog became all mixed up with bigger paintings etc..so this one is focused!..I am on gorgeous Waiheke Island north of Auckland New Zealand at the moment painting the gorgeous scenery. The blues greens and lovely green hills i find so lovely..its almost over the top picturesque. ! This is the first posting on my new blog...back to blogging!
